Most oral diseases are easy to manage during your regular checkups. That said, emergency problems require immediate dental care so that they don't become potentially serious conditions that can lead to long-term damage.

If you are experiencing a dental emergency, your top priority should be to visit a dentist near you. However, in cases where you cannot access dental services immediately, it is advisable to take the following measures after booking an appointment with a dental clinic:

If You Are Experiencing Severe Tooth Pain

A severe toothache requires immediate examination by a professional dentist. In most cases, the pain indicates that you have an issue that might have worsened over time, and it would be best to visit an emergency clinic for a checkup.

If it takes time to access emergency dental services, try to manage the pain using lukewarm water instead of aspirin or other painkillers. You can also use dental floss, which might help you get rid of any particles in the problem area. This should help ease your pain as you wait for specialised attention.

If Your Tooth Cracks

In some instances, your tooth may crack accidentally. A tooth can break for various reasons, leading to acute or sharp pain and swelling, depending on the severity of the injury. To prevent swelling, you can use a pack of ice on your face or near the cracked tooth or manage pain using warm water as you wait to see your dentist.

A broken tooth calls for an emergency visit to the dental hospital for immediate attention to help save your tooth.

If Your Tooth Falls Out

Besides tooth decay or severe infections, a tooth may fall out due to trauma, and this calls for immediate dental attention. An experienced dentist can save the tooth and place it back in place if you seek help immediately. That said, saving a fallen-out permanent tooth depends on how you handle it following the trauma.

For example, you are involved in an accident and your tooth falls out, try to place it back in its usual position and bite down on it with a piece of gauze to prevent movement. Try to keep the tooth moist until you get to the dental clinic. If you cannot fix it back in place, carry the tooth carefully to the clinic to allow your dental expert to restore it for you.

If followed carefully and within reasonable time, the above first aid measures can save your permanent teeth and help you maintain a healthy smile. Contact a dentist to learn more.
